1. Who We Are
Kompyl ("we", "us", "our") operates the website kompyl.com and the Kompyl API. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our free tools or paid API services.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Files & Content You Upload
When you use our free tools, you may upload documents (PDF, DOCX, PPTX, images) or paste text. Uploaded content is processed transiently to generate your requested output and is not retained after the conversion is complete. Files are automatically deleted within 1 hour of processing.
2.2 Usage Data
We collect anonymous usage analytics (page views, tool usage counts, error rates) to improve the service. This data does not include the content of your files or text.
2.3 API Customers
If you use the Kompyl API under a paid plan, we collect your email address and billing information to manage your account. API job metadata (timestamps, job IDs, output formats) is retained for audit purposes. Content payloads are deleted after the configurable retention window (default: 24 hours).
3. How We Use Your Information
- To process your file conversions and generate requested outputs
- To maintain and improve service reliability and performance
- To communicate with API customers about their accounts
- To detect and prevent abuse or fraud
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:
- Infrastructure providers (cloud hosting, CDN) that process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements
- LLM providers for AI-powered features — content is sent via API calls and is not used for model training
- Law enforcement if required by applicable law
5. AI & Machine Learning
Your uploaded content is never used to train AI models. Content is processed transiently through third-party LLM APIs under data processing agreements that prohibit training on customer data.
6. Cookies
We use essential cookies for site functionality (e.g., rate-limit tracking). We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Analytics cookies are anonymized and do not track individuals.
7. Data Security
We use TLS encryption for all data in transit, encrypted storage at rest, and access controls that limit who can view production data. Security is audited regularly.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data. Since we retain minimal data for free tool users, there is typically nothing to delete. API customers can email privacy@kompyl.com to exercise data rights.
9. Children
Our services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
